Spring recreational day 15th of May


The Biochemical Society of Oulu organized a Spring recreation day on Sunday the 15th of May. We headed to the white-water area of Koitelinkoski to conquer the rapids of the river with a rubber boat and after that we enjoyed a picnic in beautiful Koitelinkoski area!

Visit to Finnish Seed Potato Centre Ltd


The Biochemical Society of Oulu is organized a trip to visit a local bio-field company in the Oulu region for its members. We visited The Finnish Seed Potato Centre Ltd on Tuesday 7th of June. The visit included a presentation and a tour in the laboratory premises.
The Finnish Seed Potato Centre Ltd was introducing its operation in the Oulu Bioscience Networking Event (OBNE) 2015. It is a leading Finnish company specializing in the production of seed potato, and uses an advantaged aeroponic production method.

Science popularization event


was held at the Tuba Food and Lounge on 15th of September and gathered a nice crowd of interested participants.

tiede_yleisoThe idea of this multidisciplinary event was to popularize scientific phenomena and research. During the evening we heard five short presentations including Thought mistakes of our brain by Pauli Ohukainen, Citizen science by Prateek Singh, Literature in the stream of time by Miika Savolainen, Why carbon is needed in the production of steel by Eetu-Pekka Heikkinen, and Biobanks – better health through research by Pia Nyberg.

Hopefully we can organize something similar also next year.

45th Anniversary Celebration


We got together to celebrate our society at restaurant Nallikari on 17th of September. Evening started with an overview to the history of the society given by our chair Minna Kihlström.

And continued with wine tasting and education given by Katja Piippo. Several quality wines were tasted and compared with different types of food.
